My legs felt like jelly. ‎ ‎“They called themselves the Sun Slashers,” he continued. “They were violent. Connected. They controlled a lot of supplies and territory.” ‎ ‎I frowned. “Supplies? Like what, spare parts? Petrol?” ‎ ‎His eyes flicked to mine. “Not the legal kind.”

My eyes watered as I dragged in air Into my lungs and then turned slowly to see who it had been even though my heart and body already knew who it was. My gaze clashed with Raphael's furious ones, but he wasn't even staring at me, more at Miguel lying on the floor groaning. "You fucking bastard, how dare you put those filthy hands on her" he roared, then trudged toward him even as Margo's eyes bulged almost out of their sockets. Raphael yanked him up and I watched eyes wide as he pulled his fist back and rammed it into his face. The sound of his nose breaking and the sickening sound of more punches thrown in succession made my heart sing in my chest.

My fingers flexed against the armrest as I straightened slightly, letting the realization take hold. Two of the rebels step forward to grab me. The last thing they see is the pavement, as Caleb lands on them, smashing their faces down to the ground. Caleb is in his werewolf form, massive and deadly. Standing in front of me, he’s ready to protect me. The three remaining rebels take an unsteady step backwards and glance at each other. Yet, just when I think they might run, they make a coordinated attack, jumping forward together. Caleb, furious as he is, lashes out in one large sweep, knocking all of the rebels clean off their feet. When he struts forward to finish them off, I dash toward him and grab one of his massive arms with mine.
