I keep my hands on his chest, feeling the steady thrum of his heartbeat beneath my palms. “That’s it,” I whisper, leaning down closer to him. “You’re okay, Ruslan. You’re okay.” His chest rises and falls with each deep breath, and I can feel him slowly coming back to himself. His eyes flutter open, but they’re unfocused, still trapped in that liminal space between the nightmare and reality. I stay where I am, my body pressed against his, not moving until I’m sure he’s fully with me. Finally, his breathing evens out, and I feel the last bit of tension leave his body. I let out a breath I didn’t realise I was holding and roll off him, thinking it’s over, that I can go back to my room now.

Even the wind stilled—as if the world itself dared not disturb this fragile moment. Kael still knelt before her, unmoving. The demon's hand rested on the earth, fingers clenched into the wet grass, as if anchoring himself to stop from unraveling again. His red eyes were darker now, dulled from battle. And in his gaze—there was pain. But not for himself. For her. Rea leaned back slowly, resting against the tree trunk, trying to breathe. Each movement sent fresh waves of pain through her ribs. Her body was exhausted—her soul even more so. Her hands still clutched her side, as if trying to hold in everything that was coming apart.

It never even happened! "WAKE THE FUCK UP!" I scream. My fingers pinch her nose and I lean my head lower, still breathing in her. She's not breathing back out and screaming won't change that. "Please..." My voice breaks. My hands are pounding into her chest, not so hard to break a rib but hard enough to activate her heart. I gasp in air then lean my head lower. I'm doing this technique right. I laid her on the ground right..... and her body assumes the right posture.... A lump forces its way down my throat and I hurriedly gasp in air.... I'm breathing into her correctly too then why.... why isn't it working?!

Then there is the elders having the nerve to claim that none of this is even happening. My vision is returning and I can hear the world around me again. “Thank fuck for that you scared me” he says hugging me to him. “You weren’t even breathing” “Sorry” I mumble. Angel shakes her head at me. “What on earth are you apologising for?” she asks me with a gentle smile.

I waited to see if he would push my hand away but it seemed like he was too distracted with his breakdown to notice. I bent down to face him squarely and I placed my other hand on his other shoulder. "Dean," I sniffled, trying to hide the fear in my voice, "I'm gonna need you to pause for a second and then inhale and exhale." He avoided my eyes while he tried to do as I said. "Come on, you can do this." I whispered. "Try to breathe slowly." Dean closed his eyes as I moved closer to him and rubbed up and down his back. He did better at pacing his breathing this time. While they were still sounding ragged, his breaths were coming out in a slower patterned manner.

Adom just continues to try and drag in breath after breath unsuccessfully, starting to feel lightheaded. "Okay. You're hyperventilating. Try to take deep breaths" Alexander tries to demonstrate by taking exaggerated breaths in and out. Adom is too panicked to listen properly; his chest doesn't ache as much but he can't seem to catch his breath. Alexander grabs Adom face and tries to catch his eyes. "Look at me," Alexander caresses his cheek with a thumb, tender and easy. "Look at me," He repeats and Adom looks, as if the voice had commanded him to. "Follow me," Alexander inhales, holding it for a few seconds before letting it out and then repeating. Adom copies him until his breathing evens

“It’s okay. I’m fine. Look at me, Lyra.” I tried. Goddess, I tried. “Breathe,” he murmured, lowering his face to mine, his voice steady despite the blood dripping down his wrist. “Slowly. Like this.” He inhaled deeply, exaggerating each breath so I could follow. In. Out. In. Out. I clung to the rhythm, to the sound of his voice, to the warmth of his hand. My lungs, stubborn at first, finally obeyed. My breaths lengthened. The ringing in my ears faded.

My breathing stutters, then slows. “What is he doing here?” a healer snaps. “This is forbidden—” Lucien doesn’t answer. I feel him come closer. Each step sends a ripple through the bond, soothing where it was screaming seconds ago. The pressure on my bones eases. The grinding stops. My spine lowers back onto the mattress. “Oh gods,” Mara breathes. I gasp as my lungs finally draw a full breath, the air no longer shredding me from the inside. The pain recedes in waves, leaving behind exhaustion so deep I can barely keep my consciousness tethered.

I start to hyperventilate again as my breathing starts to come out with short gasps. “Breath Hailey, please breathe my Angel. Do not think of what could have happened. I got you. You are safe.” His voice was in a soft but demanding tone as he tries to calm me down. Very slowly I listen to the voice, it is as if it talks to my soul. Making me start to calm down.

Yumena was ready to start bawling again. "Wait-slow down sweetheart. Just breathe alright. Focus on the sound of my voice and just breath. In through your nose and out through your mouth," Yumena frowned while following Nurse Clairynymphs instructions and tried to control her breathing. She inhaled and exhaled slowly, mimicking Nurse Clairynymph who had been holding the cold Vampire's fingers. A tear slid down Yumena's cheek and she wiped it away instantly. Feeling ashamed for breaking down in public like this.
