Maids are running in every direction with fresh linens and vases of white orchids. Alice is barking orders at the kitchen staff. Lea is standing by the grand staircase, nervously smoothing down her designer dress.
"Where have you been?" Alice hisses, grabbing my arm as I try to slip past.
"Taking out the kitchen recycling," I lie smoothly.
"Well, go stand by the coat closet," Alice snaps, shoving me. "And keep your head down. The Queen Mother is arriving."
