I hummed, watching a raindrop race down the glass.
"And the flowers," he continued, glancing at me briefly before returning his eyes to the road. "Lilies are standard for purity, of course but maybe white roses? They symbolize new beginnings and since we are… restarting, in a sense, it might be appropriate."
He reached over and patted my knee.
I flinched internally but forced myself not to pull away. "White roses sound lovely, Louis," I said, my voice sounding hollow to my own ears.
"I knew you’d agree," he smiled, satisfied. "I’m glad you’re back, Sofia. The last few days… they were a trial. A test of our faith but I think we’ve come out stronger. Don't you?"
