His fate changed from 'underdog saves world' to 'overpowered entity manages boredom.'

The ironic twist is that the system itself becomes the antagonist. The hero's fate is now tied to completing its arbitrary tasks, grinding levels in a reality it has gamified. Their personal desires get sidelined by daily login bonuses. The real change isn't about beating the final boss; it's about whether they can reclaim any agency from the interface that dictates their new life. I find those stories fizzle out unless the system has a hidden cost or glitch.

My reading group argues about this constantly, and I think the easiest survival mechanism gets ignored: social integration. A god-tier system means nothing if the local lord decides you’re a demon and burns you at the stake. The smartest protagonists in stuff like 'The Legendary Mechanic' or 'Master Hunter K' spend their early chapters not on grinding, but on building alliances, joining factions, or fabricating a plausible backstory. The system might handle the monster waves, but it won’t negotiate trade agreements or spot a poisoned cup at a banquet.

That interpersonal layer creates the actual tension. Watching a character with overwhelming power still have to navigate court politics or hide their nature from a suspicious mentor—that’s where survival feels earned, not just gifted. The system becomes a cheat sheet for personal power, but the real challenge remains fundamentally human. Without that, you just get a boring power-trip where the only threat is a bigger stat block, and I lose interest fast.
