She lifted one and held it in her palm, the flame flickering without burning her.
“You’ve lived before, Evelynn,” she said. “The fire doesn’t find the new. It finds the lost. The ones who’ve burned in another life.”
Evelynn’s breath caught. “Reincarnation?”
“Something like that,” the woman murmured. “The fire runs in cycles. And in you, it burns again.”
She offered Evelynn the flame.
“Touch it. And see.”
Aiden stepped forward. “You don’t have to—”
