I peeled off my wet jacket, lit a few candles, and stared at the ash circle I hadn’t noticed ea rlier, one I must’ve drawn in my sleep on the kitchen table. The center of it held a single word, smudged now, but still readable. “Remember.” I didn’t sleep again that night.

As I walked out of the clinic, my phone beeped, and I brought it out to check. The words in the screen was a reminder from the unknown person. "Don't forget our appointment tomorrow. I don't like lateness."
