You think he’d be okay with me?” Anita shrugged, linking her arm with mine. “I can ask him. He’s chill. Works at a bar downtown, keeps to himself mostly. You two would probably get along fine.” The idea sounded too good to be true. A decent place, reasonable rent, and someone I could kind of trust through Anita. But then reality hit. “You’re staying with your boyfriend now, right?” I asked. “So I can’t crash with you?”

I was supposed to be in college, or I should have at been at least celebrating my first year as an airman in the military, but none of that materialized. Part of the trouble started almost two years ago when I met Roman shortly after my first boyfriend, Jonas, cheated on me. They, along with a few other guys, were either loose associates or friends with Reece. I was still in high school on my way to graduating when I came into contact with them all. They just loved me at first glance. I didn't know if that's how friendships are meant to be born but with time our bonds grew, and after my first boyfriend's stupid move that wrecked me for months, they urged me to come live with them in their flat. We all split the rent and existed as one big happy family.
