Obey Me In Darkness
The Ravager cast one last smile over his shoulder before melting back into the darkness, his ferals slipping away with him as if they had never been there at all.
The moment he was gone, movement caught my eye near the dumpsters. A pile of trash bags shifted, then split apart, and Ethan crawled out, scrambling to his feet before sprinting straight toward me.
I dropped to my knees and caught him against my chest, wrapping my arms around his thin frame and breathing him in. He smelled a little ripe and a little scared, but he was alive. That was all that mattered.
“Mira told me that if the bad guys came again, I should hide in the trash,” he said. “So I did, and it worked.”
