Some people even thought it replicated the actual Hell. Ruax planned to trap Hade in the stone. This way he could live another 150 years in this body without being put away in a dormancy. It was a curse that whenever the Alpha of the old soul had a child, the wolf would be put to dormancy within the child. The Alpha, on the other hand, would gain another newer soul in it’s stead. It ensured that the old souls would not be able to cause such chaos. It was a kind of safety lock for the amount of time an ancient wolf can surface.

“The bit about the… resonance.” Veronica, perched on the edge of a towering bookshelf, adjusted the reading lamp to better illuminate the text. “Right here,” she said, pointing with a manicured nail. “’…and when the Gemini Heart is attuned to two souls, bound by blood yet fractured by fate, a resonance shall occur. This resonance, like a mirror reflecting the deepest desires, can… alter the very essence of being.’” Isabella scribbled furiously in her notebook. “Alter the very essence of being… that’s… vague, but promising. Keep going.”

Like he needs to absorb her, merge with her. "Still," he commands, when her body stirs even in sleep. We see it. Natalia is struggling. Not with her body—but with her soul. She resists. It’s not submission in her… it’s power. Instinct. When his hand travels down her thigh, a small whimper escapes her lips. Barely a whisper. "No… please… please…" Roman freezes. He pulls back. Carefully, he lays her down again. His expression has changed.

I breathed. Yance stepped closer, and for once, his eyes weren’t guarded or irritated. They were scared. “Lance gave you his life force before he died. His soul, his power… they’re bound to yours now.” There was a name for this. I remembered from the realm. Soul Resonance. A bond that existed only between the closest of souls: mates or family strong enough to defy death. Cristof hesitated. “Your heartbeat keeps switching. Sometimes it’s yours. Sometimes it’s his. You’re sharing a body with a spirit that refuses to sleep.”

He uses it on us. He reaches into the Resonance, that fragile thread between us, and he doesn’t sever it. He doesn’t amplify it. He re-forges it. It is not a gentle process. It is a white-hot, agonizing compression. He takes our two separate souls, our individual fears and silences and lonely corners, and he doesn’t blend them. He braids them. He creates a new shape: a Shared Solitude.

It is a single, breathing entity. What I felt radiating from the horizon was the exact opposite. It was a million isolated frequencies, grinding against each other with zero lubrication. It was the sound of a million gears screaming in the dark. A suffocating, dense architecture of ambition, greed, profound loneliness, and industrialized apathy. "Hold the iron," I shouted back down the deck to the six other Resonators. "Brace! The frequency is chaotic! Do not let it enter your chest, ground it into the keel!"

“Are you with us?” She nodded once. Her throat felt raw from the Crown’s questions. “I’m here.” Cassian rubbed a hand through his hair. “Great. Lovely. Fantastic. Can someone explain why the sky is doing that—” The sky cracked white again, thunder silent but violent. Malachai narrowed his eyes. “That’s not weather. That’s resonance.” Lyra’s heart stuttered. Resonance. With what? The answer rippled through the ground. A deep vibration rolled up through the snow, through the stones, through the air. It was not an earthquake. It was older. It was as if the land itself recognized something standing among them—and was deciding what to do about it.
