At that moment, a pair of hands grabbed me and pulled me back. I was pressed flush against a broad chest, and I heard my savior's racing heart. Skyler held me tightly and said soothingly, "You're safe. You're safe, Rory." My knees were weak from the fright, and I was still terrified. For some reason, the scene of Skyler saving me overlapped with my memories of being saved in the past. A thought formed in my mind.

I wondered if he was going to beg me to empathize with Frank and Madison again. "You were reborn, weren't you?" My expression morphed into one of shock upon hearing his words. I whipped around and tried to make a break for it.
