Mary stared at me for a moment, and turned towards the oil lamp as she slowly continued, “I know that you’re the silver-tailed mermaid, but how did you know my name the first time we met? How did you turn into a human? And you somehow feel familiar to me…”
“We’ve actually met before… Before your death.” Taking a deep breath, I revealed the truth and then asked earnestly, “Mary, may I ask if you believe in fate and reincarnation?”
Perhaps my words had been so overwhelming that she didn’t know what to think right then, but I knew that she was trying to understand. Her body must have been mutating inexplicably as well, or she wouldn’t have brought a stranger like me here.
