When Ryley came out and closed the door at his back, he painfully eyed the only man he swore shared the same pain as himself, Rafael, the Gamma of the pack. Ryley paused before him, his eyes looking deep in his moistless yet terrified ones, as he swallowed the knot of uneasiness beneath his throat, and whispered, "Please tell me this is a bad REDEEMABLE dream— and that it'll be gone when I open my eyes from my deep sleep." We reached a reinforced door. “Ten minutes,” one guard said before unlocking it. It creaked open. There, sitting on a metal bench, handcuffed and still dressed in a tattered gray prison coat, was the man I once called Father. Mr. Reynolds. His hair had thinned, and his skin had aged harshly, but his eyes, those cold, calculating eyes, still held the same poison they always did. He looked up. A faint smile tugged at his lips. “Well… if it isn’t my perfect little soldier.”

‎ ‎My hands trembled as I unfolded the paper. ‎ ‎More handwriting. ‎ ‎But this one was different. ‎ ‎Sharper. ‎Angrier. ‎Like the pen had been pressed too hard. ‎ ‎The message made my blood go cold: ‎ ‎“You still don’t understand what you’ve done.” ‎ ‎My breath caught. ‎ ‎Then I saw it: ‎ ‎A second line. ‎Smaller. ‎Almost like an afterthought. ‎ ‎“He’s not who you think.” ‎ ‎I stared. ‎

I can see it settling into his bones now, the truth. I am his nightmare. I want him to feel every ounce of the pain he caused. I want him to bleed for it. Scream for it. Beg for the mercy he never gave them. “No, their son is dead!” Reynolds yells, shaking now, voice cracking. “You shouldn’t be alive! You should’ve died with the rest of them! How?! How are you alive?!” I laugh. A dark, bitter sound that echoes off the walls. Then I crouch, grabbing his jaw in a bruising grip, forcing his bloodstained face to meet mine.

He kept his head lowered, continuing to block me without saying a single word. I clutched my pocket knife as I warily asked him, "What the hell do you want?" He raised his head to look at me. He had a complicated emotion swirling in his eyes, and his voice was hoarse when he called out my name. I didn't say a single word in response. I wondered if he was going to beg me to empathize with Frank and Madison again. "You were reborn, weren't you?" My expression morphed into one of shock upon hearing his words. I whipped around and tried to make a break for it.

His beautiful song was our love story’s grand finale. "I'm the fool who threw true love away And now it's raining every single day Baby I'm sorry for hurting you that way Please, forgive this fool and choose to stay" Everyone cheered for him. As he gave me the roses, I managed to force a little smile and he looked really hurt by it. A pang in my chest made me wince, but I managed to make it go away.
