“Heavy. What’s in here, rocks?”
“Books. Snacks. Weapons,” Poppy answered without pause.
“Snacks, yes. Weapons, no,” I said.
Rhea helped Poppy down from her car seat, setting her white-sneakered feet on the pavement. Her little tartan skirt and blazer made her look like a student council member ready to fire the principal.
The second her feet hit the ground, she tried to bolt.
Rhea caught the collar of her blazer. “Hey. Ritual first.”
