Selene Blackthorn (POV) The sound of my ringtone tore through the grave silence that had settled over the four walls of my room. The table vibrated as the phone rang, eyeing it with the corner of my green eyes. Looks like the call I have been anticipating for has finally come through.

Because no matter how many outcomes I decide, this one depends on her. The first ring starts. A sharp inhale escapes me. The walls of my room feel too close, the silence too thick. The sound of the ring cuts through it, relentless, each chime hitting something raw and alive inside me. Come on. Second ring. I drag a hand through my hair, my grip tightening around the phone. Every muscle is tense, alert, strung tight like a bow ready to snap. I’m listening for something that isn’t even there yet... her voice.

My thoughts were too loud, looping over the same questions. Who was he? How did he know me? And why did he call me an omega? I pulled out my phone under the counter, my fingers hovering over Nolan’s number. I hesitated. He had already been cryptic enough the last time we talked. If I called him, would he actually give me answers? Or just more vague warnings? Instead, I sent a simple text: Someone in the diner called me an omega. He had gold eyes. Who is he? I set my phone down, my stomach twisting with nerves. Would Nolan even answer?

He closed his eyes and flickered them open quickly to get the blurry vision away but it didn't work because it was still blurry. The ringing in his ears didn't stop. It got louder each passing second and for that moment he was in a space of his own. He wanted the ringing to stop so bad because it was making the ache in his head worse. The ache in his heart was the worst but the ringing in his ears came second. It was like he was being taken to a new planet. He wanted the ringing to end so bad so he could be able to listen more on their conversation. He put a finger deep into his ear and wiggled it hoping the ringing would clear off but his efforts to get the ringing to stop were futile.
