Another loud gong echoed out and Toban’s shield cracked across the middle and fizzled out, large blue flakes of light falling to the ground around him.
Kealy sucked in a breath when she saw what had caused the shield to fail, Rex was standing behind the man, sword raised, pointed toward a now frightened Toban, who dropped his staff and fell to his knees next to a pale Barton.
“Grab the weapons,” Rex wheezed, “Bashing through that shield has taken a little more than I thought out of me.”
“We have surrendered,” Toban said, raising his hands into the air, “You cannot kill prisoners of war.”
