My claws met with his flesh and tore through his fur. He sank into his stomach and cried in pain. I was about to finish him when another rogue attacked me from behind.

I could feel the unspoken unity between us, the unbreakable bond that had carried us through countless battles. “Thank you all for coming,” I began, my voice cutting clean through the heavy silence. “I know most of you would rather be guarding your borders than sitting here but what we’re facing isn’t a raid and it isn’t some wandering rogue problem. This—” I gestured toward the map spread across the table “is war.” Murmurs broke out immediately. “The rogues have never been organized before,” Alpha Torran of Clawfang said, slamming his hand on the table. “Now they strike in waves, with weapons we’ve never seen. Silver arrows, wolfsbane blades… where are they getting them?”

Oh, did I hear him clearly? Of course, now that he had strayed from his initial plans because of me, it was time to finally return to his rightful pack. I completely forgot that he’s not just a rogue. He has a purpose, and he’s going to fulfill it now. “But…the current alpha is your uncle..” He just raised his eyebrows, “And? I mentioned it to you. My whole goal was claiming back what is rightfully mine.” “But you’ve been rogue for too long. Let’s say you took down your uncle, now what? What about your members? You know how crazy our world is, they discriminate against us, rogues. They wouldn’t see you as their leader.”
