MOON OF ASHES
The child-wolf stopped at the centre, ears pricked, and gave a low warning growl.
“What is it?” Mara whispered.
Ava didn’t answer. She felt it too: a ripple in the air, like the forest itself inhaling. A shadow detached from the far side of the clearing. Then another. Figures emerged, lean and ragged, eyes burning with a feral light. They were wolves, but not entirely. Their shapes blurred at the edges, half-human, half-beast, caught between forms.
“Rogue shifters,” Silas murmured. He drew his sword.
