Home Again By Kristin Hannah Novels & Stories

The front door wasn't fully shut, so he pushed it open. Dad was sitting on the living-room couch. At the sound of the door, he looked up. His surprise hardened into coldness when he saw the breathless boy in the doorway. "Mr. Whitaker." Mason's voice came in ragged bursts after the run. "Why is Hannah going overseas?" Dad narrowed his eyes at him and let out a heavy sigh. "The night she came home from the karaoke lounge, Hannah said she wanted to study abroad." Mason's throat moved.

A call from home came through. "Adam, dinner's ready. Could you pick up some yam on your way back?" "Sure, Mom." My steps grew lighter, my pace quickened, and I jogged into the subway station. It felt as if I could already smell the aroma of dinner waiting at home. After taking so many detours for over a decade, I finally reached the end of my dream path. Now… I truly had a home.

ELIJAH’S POV: "I appreciate that," I said. "Unless she asks," she added. "Obviously," Andrew said. "Right," I said. "Obviously." Hannah came home at eight thirty that night, which was actually closer to the time she said she would be home than usual and I considered that a small victory. She came through the door looking tired but bright in the eyes in the particular way that the warehouse produced in her, like it was charging something inside her that everything else in the day had been slowly draining.

Is He My Father? Upon Your Return - Episode 48 *** Grant took Fara and Gabe into town less than a week after their picnic at the cove. She wanted to go by the milliner's shop to pick up a gown and some clothes she'd had made for their son. And it wouldn't be too much trouble to go by the general store for a toy. Whilst they were in town, they stopped by a coffeehouse for luncheon. After a brief repast, they were leaving the restaurant when Gabe tried to get his mother's attention.

It’s true that his family house is now his sister’s, so I don’t think he’d want to live with her and her family, no matter how much he loves them. I guess what I really want to know is why he returned. Why he left his life in LA to come back home after so long. But I don’t want to be that obvious, so it’s better to start with a stupid question. One I already know the answer to. “I’m used to living by myself. As much as I love Aubrie, Caitlin and Tom, I appreciate having my own space,” he explains, opening the driver’s door and climbing out of the car.

Hannah A few days later, the doctor allowed me to go home. It turned out that Chloe could also go home on the same day as me. April picked me, Mom, and Chloe up. To make it easier for us to meet our deadlines, Chloe stayed at Mom’s apartment until everything returned to normal.

I had no idea how I even got home. I opened the door to find Roddy still on the couch. Staring at my ashen complexion, he sneered, “I told you not to go. You’re only embarrassing yourself.” The remark was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I took large strides over and stood before him. “Roddy.” My voice was terrifyingly still. “Your good neighbor said that they won’t return the money you so willingly gave. She dares you to ask for the money back yourself.”

Just those few words, yet they possess such an enormity that threatens to revive my tears as my lined lips begin to tremble. This is it, I’m back home for real now. I take a glance around me, committing this heart-warming moment to my memory. Friends, family, and my Pack members...every trial and tribulation crafted the path back to redemption. I feel whole again, and like my sister said, I can now create new memories and be happy from now on. “I’m home.”

Hannah joined me some minutes later after making sure Zach was well tucked in. Sleep was hard to come by that night. I couldn’t believe that we were now surrounded by creatures that could cut our lives short at any time. Of all decisions Hannah had ever made, moving back to our home town was the worst. But now it was almost too late to leave. Hannah had poured a lot of money into the project and the hope of leaving was small. I was free to leave on my own, but I knew life wouldn’t be the same without my siblings. Wherever I went, I would always worry about them and never have peace. It was best to stay so we could fight off enemies together.

But, the last person I wanted to tell that to was Queen Abigail. “Okay. Everything looks good. The doctor will be in shortly to see you.” I didn't bother to smile as I went and washed my hands. “But seriously, Hannah, why are you back?” Abigail asked. “You were free. You could have done anything. Why are you back in Riversville, Iowa?” “Like I said, I wanted to be close to family. “ I dried my hands and opened the exam room door. “I'll go let Dr. Mathews know you're ready.”
