He shifted slightly, pushing himself up onto one elbow so he could face her more directly, and the movement brought him closer to her without breaking the contact between their hands.
Up close, he could see the faint translucence that still clung to her edges, the way the light passed through strands of her hair just slightly differently than it should have, but none of that mattered. She was present. She was here with him.
Emotion swelled unexpectedly in his chest.
“You know,” he said quietly, “I used to think ghosts would be terrifying if they were real.”
A small, uncertain smile flickered across her lips.
“But you…” He exhaled softly. “You’re the least scary thing I’ve ever seen.”
