I take a sip of my wine and see him smile before leaning forward and chuckling. “Hmm, well, for one, why are you a PA when you write phenomenal novels?” He asks, and the smile that was on my face drops to an awkward one. I always feel this way when someone says they've read my books. “You’ve read my books?” I ask, taking another sip of my wine. Please don’t say yes. I send up a silent prayer but to no avail. “Yes, all three in the Michro Trilogy, by the way. Excellent storytelling in my favourite genre. What made you divert from Sci-Fi to Romance?” He says, but I am still blown away that he knows my books.

Alex sat down at his desk, turned on the light, and began reading. Eight hours later, he finished the final chapter. Alex was no expert on romance novels, but Rachel’s writing could convince him to become an avid fan. She was good. Damn good, he thought, but an important element seemed to be lacking. Rachel’s descriptions and dialogue were colorful and dramatic, but, in Alex’s opinion, the leading male character was a bit bland, and he lacked any real emotional depth for a romantic hero. "No. But there's a reason", I say, leaning against the shelf and placing my palm over the books. Then I slowly trace my hand over them. I used to think romance novels were silly. I mean you would agree with me that some things in romance novels don’t make sense. For example, whenever the main characters kissed the sensation of the kiss was described as an electric feeling and I always wondered why a kiss would feel like electric pulses in my veins and who wanted to feel shocked by electricity while they kissed? But right now I’m beginning to think that maybe I have been kissing the wrong people.

Ah, of course, my book wouldn't be in the top 10, and I didn't hope so; what's staring back at me is the top 10 best-selling books for the week, where five of ten are Erotic Romance books. "And I thought my company wouldn't be like other companies who are after profit; I was wrong. Then again, business is business."

“It’s not a romance novel, mark.” “I know, but readers are anticipating the juicy details, and may I remind you that romance is still the most read genre. What happened to your main characters’ romance? Give us a satisfying ending. That’s what readers are looking for in a novel. Unless you are writing a duo, trilogy, or a series.” I shook my head. “I’m not gonna change anything in the plot, especially their romantic relationship.” Because nothing happened after that. “Then I can’t promise you a good deal with the publisher. I accept your manus because of your father. You should start with your website and blogs to build your readership, and also your page as a writer. You’re already famous—”
