Biting my nail, I opened my Kindle app from my phone and scrolled through the romance novels. I’d never been a huge romance reader, more of fantasy and sci-fi, but it wouldn’t hurt, would it? To gain a little experience? I giggled to myself and opened up the first one with a buff guy on the front. I’ll just read a few chapters.

"You have a fire in your soul, Celess. A passion for life that I find... intoxicating. I wanted to share that with you." Celess felt her heart racing in her chest. She had always been drawn to danger, but this was different. This was the ultimate forbidden romance, and she didn't know if she was ready for it. But as she looked into Steve's dark eyes, she felt a sense of calm wash over her. She didn't know what the future held, but she knew that she wanted to spend it with him. Without a word, she stepped forward and wrapped her arms around Steve's neck, pressing her lips to his in a fierce, passionate kiss. As they kissed, she felt like she was finally home.

“Like it’s just another war you have to control.” “It is.” “No,” she said firmly. “It stopped being just that the moment you kissed me.” Silence. Deep. Heavy. Unavoidable. “And now?” she asked. His breath slowed. “Now it’s complicated.” Nyra almost laughed—but there was no humor in it. “Complicated?” she repeated. “That’s what you’re calling this?” “What do you want me to call it?” She didn’t hesitate. “Real.” The word settled between them like something fragile and dangerous.

My other hand moved to cup her face, my thumb grazing her cheek gently, contrasting the intensity of everything else. There was a storm raging between us—anger, confusion, frustration, and something deeper, something neither of us could fully understand. But it was there. I felt it, and I knew she did too. Everything we’d been holding back, everything we’d refused to acknowledge, was breaking free in that kiss.

I panted, and he chuckled, “Tell me, doll,” he whispered, “Tell me what you want,” “Oh god, Darian,” I panted “Please,” “Please what, baby?” he teased. “Darian,” I growled, and he chuckled. He began to speed up his movements, and I flew over the edge again. I screamed again as he continued the rub at my sensitive spot, and wave after wave of pleasure pushed through my body. Finally I couldn’t hold myself on my knees any more and slumped in his arms, panting. Darian chuckled and lowered me gently to the bed. He leaned down and kissed me, with barely a graze of the lips. I’m damn proud of it, and I’m glad I didn’t give up after the first fail. I’ve discovered that I get into those fantasy stories where one person knows who his or her soul mate is upon meeting them, or even before that, as what happened in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas, A Kinda Fairy Tale series by Cassandra Gannon, and many of the shifter books by Eve Langlais that I have loved so much. So that’s where I came up with the Love Mark idea.

My father could take as many women as he desired, but they could never take the place of my mother, whom he had murdered. The Moon Goddess gave our mates to us, though some considered her a pesky meddler. My father had been mated to my mother when he was rather young, and they had grown up side by side. My mother, the Lycan Luna, was graceful and submissive to her alpha, never challenging me in public or causing him any reason to be ashamed of her. My mother adored my father and lived her life each day to please him. She was mostly successful until the day tragedy struck.

He offered and handed his pill to me, bringing a bright smile to my face. "Thanks bro." I thanked him, and he winked, rushing out. That was how he saved me, but I knew it was only a matter of time before my secret would be exposed. This was a dangerous path to tread—the type that would bring disaster and death at the end. It was that type of romance that has no happy ending. I knew this, and I should stay away. The best option was to kill her and save myself from falling harder, but my powers are weak in front of her.

I can't believe this guy is such a clichè. I guess he wanted to do some romantic stuff he saw on tv. "Better moments than this?
