Most of them are useless, too open, too easy to escape from, but then I find one that works. The door is solid, heavier than the others, with no windows and only a single vent high up on the wall. The room itself is empty except for a few rusted shelves against the back wall. It’s perfect.

“If you’d prefer, I can request an extra cot.” Her breath stalled. “And if they don’t have one?” she asked quietly. “Then I’ll sleep elsewhere in the room.” Silence stretched between them. This wasn’t about professionalism. Not really. It was about proximity. “Fine,” Aria said finally. “One night. We survive it.” Damian inclined his head. “Agreed.” They reached the room moments later. The door opened to soft, amber lighting and expansive windows that framed the city like a painting. Elegant. Minimal. Too romantic for something so strictly inconvenient.
