I stayed far. “Is it poison?”
“Test me,” he said, taking a bite. “See?”
I crawled closer and ate hungrily. “Why feed me?”
“Healthy prisoners talk,” he said. He sat on the bed and watched me.
The heat pain hit me hard. “Does it hurt?” I said without thinking.
“Heat pain,” he said. “I can help.”
“No,” I replied. “I’d rather die.”
