Raven’s POV As food was being placed on the table everything around us began to shake. At first it was nothing more than a small tremble. Something that could have been easily mistaken for an earthquake, but they gradually became more violent confirming they were explosions. The few pictures that hung the walls dropped, the glass shattering as they hit the ground. The china plates and cups moved nearer and nearer the edge of the table until they too ended up on the ground. “Alpha, they’ve found us!” Keeping a straight face I watched as my father lost his temper as one of his idiot men ran into the room. Judging by the look on both their faces they hadn’t planned on anyone finding them here.

“School’s not cancelled forever.” “One day is enough to get killed,” John muttered. “How do we know he didn’t send those rogues himself just to force everyone into his camp?”He had a point. Alpha Pascal was the oldest and most battle-hardened of the thirteen Alphas ,the only one still standing after the brutal decade-long war between the Twelve Packs and the Thirteen. They said his valor alone had saved the Twelve from being wiped out. After victory, the Thirteen Pack vanished… but the rumours never died. And they are very advanced creatures. With stories packed, I was excited to go home and tell everything to my mother. However, the welcoming land became horrifying scenery when bloodshed was everywhere. Terrified silence suffocated my breath when I saw in a distance the decapitated white wolves on the ground, the mark of scratches on the walls, and the weeping of the few survivors. The wall of the palace was vandalized by the ink of blood saying, 'GLORY TO ALPHA RIGO!'

They were going to be killed when others found out. I got to my feet; Picking my pack up, I cleared my throat and everyone looked at me. "Time to go?" Eidrich asked, as he and the others grabbed their packs. "We took a longer break than usual. If we want to get to the ruins, we need to keep going." I told them. I put the fire out and we began to walk. An hour hadn't gone by when a raven appeared with a letter. Stay where you, everyone is getting escorted out. An Alpha has gone missing.

Rex's motorcycle was hidden in the ruins fifty paces behind the arena's back gate. This wasteland was the old quarter of Alpha City, gutted by a fire over a decade ago. Nothing remained but blackened stone walls and roofs that had caved in on themselves. Rex had wedged the motorcycle behind a broken section of wall draped in desiccated vines. No one could spot it unless they were three steps away. He slammed his broadsword into the sheath on his back. The clash of metal ricocheted through the ruins. Then he lifted a boot and kicked a chunk of rubble out of the front wheel's path.

The air felt hollow, as if the life force of the land had been sucked out. "Alpha, we're approaching the first coordinate," the driver, a silent wolf named Silas, whispered. I looked out the window and felt my stomach drop. We were at the ruins of a High Council outpost. The reinforced concrete walls hadn't just been hit; they had been shredded by claws the size of scythes. The ground was littered with the remnants of silver-plated armor, but there were no bodies. There was only ash and the smell of wet fur and ozone.

There has to be another way. Alph was unable to muster the strength to support himself, for his body had been weakened, slumped from the last battle with Alex. He knew how cracks in the walls of Alex's defenses had appeared, but it mattered little if he could not even stand upright. He felt an opening, a potential way around this weakness of Alex, but how could he seize it if his body refused to cooperate?
