The leader laughed, dragging her into the shadows. I roared, breaking through the raiders in a frenzy, but the storm swallowed them, leaving only emptiness.

If this wasn't reason enough, then, Irish didn't know what else. She couldn't help questioning herself. 'If he was resisting her all the while, then why his sudden agreement to kill her?
