Their trip to the World’s Fair had been like visiting an alternate existence. It went beyond simply politely 'familiar'. That had been an imaginary World of Tomorrow where the natural hierarchy and boundaries of wealth and social status had been erased, like the idealized Democracity or the egalitarian Futurama. Where people attracted to one another were free to explore that gift in each other's company without question.

My job was to take care of things for them so that they could enjoy all the honor and glory that came from it. Now that I had a second chance because of my rebirth, I would never make that mistake again. After I had everything arranged, I leaned back into the Alpha's chair and scrolled through the news on my phone. I was planning to brush up on some new hunting techniques, but every headline was about the dazzling fireworks over the coast. The fireworks were more beautiful than anything I had ever seen. They symbolized a lifetime together. As I wondered who had set them off, a message from Amy popped up.
