Hibiki, now drowsy, clutched the stuffed bear Jiro had given him as a wedding present, his eyelids fluttering as sleep began to take over. “Goodnight, little warrior,” Jiro whispered, brushing his hand gently across Hibiki’s forehead. “Sweet dreams.” Hibiki mumbled something about dragons and spaghetti, but within seconds, he was sound asleep, his small chest rising and falling in peaceful rhythm. Jiro lingered by the bed for a moment, his hand resting lightly on Hibiki’s head before he stood and turned to me. “I think he’s finally out,” Jiro said with a smile, walking over to the couch and sitting beside me. He leaned in to press a soft kiss to my forehead, his eyes warm and tender.

She awoke when she clearly saw the back of a man in front of her. “Since you’re awake, here. Warm water. No sugar or tea, just warm water.” Ryu turned around and offered a bottle of sake. “There’s no other container. But it’s just water now.” Ryu wouldn’t be foolish enough to give Kyoko sake again. Kyoko accepted it, but her eyes widened in wonder at the delicious-smelling thing hanging over the fire. Something resembling meat was hanging there, devoid of a head. “Rabbit. Unfortunately, I only managed to catch one. It’s not very big, but it’s better than nothing.”
