Maya said gently, her hand on his arm. He wrenched away from her, moving back to Helena’s bedside. He took her hand in his. “Helena,” he said, his voice breaking. “Helena, please.” I couldn’t watch. I turned away, pressing a fist to my mouth to hold back the scream building in my throat. My sister was dead. My beautiful sister was gone. And the last thing—the very last thing… anyone would have thought would happen. A harsh sob tore from Hunter’s throat, the sound so raw… it hurt to hear.

Calanthe stood up, muttering something under her breath before she walked to her room, but not before casting me a small smirk with a slight twitch of her lips. “You know how it is, Naidira. Sit.” My father gestured to the chair where Calanthe had sat a while ago. My legs wobbled as I collapsed heavily on the seat. “Explain.” One word. But the weight it carried was evident. My father had this blank on his face. Like I was supposed to just get it. That the man who could be my mateㅡ the one I had waited for such a long timeㅡ was betrothed to my sister.

If Cayden and I had just stopped in to say hi, she would have come and given me a hug, but much like my father, she differentiates between her daughter Scarlett and her Alpha Scarlett. “Alpha Scarlett, Beta Cayden. I laughed, "why are you volunteering me, Leia?" Leia shrugged her shoulders as we walked back to the living room, "you never back away from a fucking fight. But otherwise, I have a few other people that would happily fight for you, Osiah." Osiah shook his head, "actually Sue is quite like Kate in that regard. She protected me if anyone tried to harm me. Besides, my brother is the Beta and my sister is the Luna, so it’s more stares and whispers than actual harassment." "And who protects you from Sue?" I joked, knowing how she used to tease her brother when they were younger.

Kylo took a big breath before continuing. “Mia’s sister.” Kylo combed his fingers through his hair. While turning around and walking towards his horse. “What? Mia had a sister… Where is she now?” I poured all these questions towards Kylo. I could not stop myself. I had to know the answers to my questions. “Ethan, maybe slow down on all the questions.” Aspen jumped into the conversation. His voice filled with concern.
