Before I could breathe. I was alive. Barely. The ache in my chest was a sunburst of agony. I rolled onto my side with a ragged breath. “Tessa,” I rasped. Someone dropped to their knees beside me. “Still breathing, asshole,” Kira muttered. Her voice was tight - not with sarcasm this time, but fear. “She.. ?” I tried again, lifting my head. “Alive,” Kira said immediately. “But unconscious. She saved you. Blew half the fucking battlefield apart to do it.”

I told Lucas. Picking up the USB stick, I studied it from all sides before I handed it over to Lucas. He plucked it into the TV and then stepped back. The screen stayed black but someone was speaking. “If you’re watching this then you’ve received my gifts,” a robotic voice said. “She’s still alive, but it won’t be for long. You have twenty-four hours to make up your mind. Technically you don’t have a choice.” The voice stopped speaking and an image appeared on the screen. There were a few photos of an unconscious Cora and then it disappeared only for a video to appear seconds later.

In the dark waters below, Savannah surfaced gasping, clutching Eva to her chest as debris rained down like stars. Colton swam to her. Pulled them both to the rescue raft dropped seconds before. They sat in silence. No words. Just the smell of smoke. The waves were hot, rising like breath. Colton held Savannah against him, heart pounding, as Eva’s small cough confirmed life. But Savannah—she never looked at him. Her eyes remained fixed on the flames, watching until nothing was left. Not even bones. Just silence. And the last scream of Magnolia Echo, swallowed by the ocean.

“Interesting.” My phone vibrated suddenly. The room almost swallowed the weak sound. Alaric tilted his head, waiting. I pulled it out with shaking fingers. One message. Joey’s name. He is awake. My chest heaved and settled in the same breath. Luca. Alive. Fighting. Still here. Alaric read my face like a book. “Perfect,” he said. “Now your motivations have structure.” He put the phone away and stepped into the light. “You destroyed the polite option. I will not offer it again.”

Which was in the first moment he saved me. “Is this what you really want?,” a voice said from the hall low, amused, and wrapped in power. It wasn’t a voice I recognized; it felt like thunder under velvet. Damian’s hand went to mine. Not possessive. Protective. His grip was suddenly all that kept me anchored. “Don’t,” he breathed, so soft I barely heard it. “Not here.” My heart thudded like a drumbeat. The mark on my wrist ignited, hotter than it had ever been. The room seemed to tilt. Something moved in the shadows outside the open door.

“Consider this bracelet my engagement gift to you. Just text me once you’re home.” The two condescending men then left with Lucy, who looked on the verge of tears. Sharing a speechless look with Harper, I tossed his bracelet into the sewer.

"If I didn't save you that time, what will happen to you?" Niccolo asked her wife as they lay down in their soft and comfy bed. It's twelve midnight, but they are still awake. Casey looked at her husband's eyes and smiled. She shrugs her shoulders and said, "I don't know what will happen to me that time. Thank God because you saved me from being hopeless. You saved me, Mr. Billionaire. My husband saved me and I was so thankful for that."
