“I am familiar with the concept.” He led her to the center of the chamber where a great, grey pelt of a winter wolf was spread before the hearth. No fire burned there; his magic kept the room in a state of perpetual freeze. “Lie down.” It was not a request. Scarlet held his gaze for a long moment, the air crackling with the unspoken power struggle, before she lowered herself to the fur. The contrast was immediate. The faint, residual heat of her body began to melt a microscopic layer of frost on the pelt’s surface.
