My heart began to ache terribly, as if it had been broken with the link. Was the person using sorcery on me? Why on earth would my heart suddenly begin to hurt me just when the link got severed? Doesn’t that talk about how dangerous that person could be? I tried to think about who else could have sent a mind link. Has something happened to my father that he asked someone to send a mind link? Maybe Ralph was the one in danger? “I was talking to an unrecognized person but the link suddenly snapped. I tried connecting to the link again, but it just keeps snapping back.” I explained to Ashina.

I talked to myself as I stepped back, holding my breath. His face suddenly contorted with fear and he started trembling. I saw his eyes move fast, indicating that he was mind-linking someone. I tried to go closer but his body shook uncontrollably, and the scent of fresh urine filled my nostrils again, making me want to throw up in disgust. He seemed possessed. How his head turned left and right and the speed with which his eyes moved told me that whoever mind-linked him terrified him. Who was he talking to? Did the person who put them up to it find out they had failed and mind-linked him to prevent him from talking?

I said, feigning innocence. I glanced around after speaking. It was true. There wasn't a single living person in sight, but ghosts were everywhere. "This place is cursed!" Charlotte snapped. "I can't even stop. The moment I even think about it, it feels like needles are piercing my hands." Even as she spoke, her hands kept moving. Fear flickered across her face at the scene before her. The terror in her eyes was truly a rare sight to behold. "Is this your doing? Did you come up with all these tricks to scare me? You just want revenge for all the times I picked on you at school, don't you?"

Parker whispers. Panic claws at my chest. “Is there any sensitive data on here?” I ask, scanning my brain for files, plans, anything dangerous. Before he can answer, the screen goes black again—then reboots, like nothing happened. I gape. Parker bursts out laughing. “What the actual fuck was that? And what’s so funny, Theo? I wanna laugh too!” I can’t help it—I laugh like a maniac. But then, just as I’m catching my breath, something slams into my mind like a wave. Pressure—foreign and sharp. I opened the app store and typed in “séance.” Stupid. I knew it was stupid. But I didn’t have a dusty old Ouija board or some gothic medium on speed dial. I had my phone. And right now, it was the only thing between me and the silence. I picked one with decent reviews: “SpiritLink: Connect with the Beyond.” It had the kind of silly interface you’d expect, candles, a board, swirling letters. But it said it used “energy-sensitive microphone response.” Whatever. I just wanted a way to call him.

He apologized, and I sighed. Now I am not sure of what to say, as I am so tired of everything that is going on. I am feeling so sick and wobbly thinking of what I am experiencing right now. I have never heard of such a thing in my history of learning about my clan. Mind link is not common in my clan, but it seems very cool. Is it a Lycan thing? It is cool, but I can't do this! I can't constantly be in fear that he might be listening to everything I am thinking about.
