As the stories got scarier, I noticed a few of the younger pack members huddling closer to their parents, seeking comfort and reassurance. Soon, it was my turn to share a story. Feeling the weight of the moment, I cleared my throat and began my tale. "In a small village, there was a haunted mansion. It was said that the spirit of a vengeful witch roamed the halls, seeking revenge on anyone who dared to enter her domain..." I let my imagination run wild, conjuring spine-chilling scenes and mysterious characters. The pack leaned in closer, their eyes wide with fascination, hanging onto every word I spoke. The suspenseful atmosphere made my heart race with excitement.

Scarlett’s POV At dawn, they came. The attack wasn’t subtle; the screams and the clash of steel against steel echoed through Redcape, shaking the earth beneath us. I had felt it before I even opened my eyes—a dark, foreboding presence that made my skin crawl. As I sat up, my heart pounded in my chest, knowing the inevitable had arrived. Fear gripped me, cold and unrelenting. Were we ready? I didn’t know, and I wasn’t sure it mattered anymore.

Ten-year-old Bree chimed as Emma looked over her shoulder worriedly. “That’s nice, sweetie. Why don’t you tell me about that mermaid story again?” “I hate that story. Can I tell the one about the wolf?” Bran chimed in. “Wolf?” Patrick asked as Brinna looked out the window and saw another animal running alongside their vehicle. “Yeah, the one that eats the girl in the red hood.” “Mommy, I don’t like that story. It is scary.” Bree snuck at the rolling landscape and saw the scary animal with sharp teeth sneering at her, so she pretended to look forward and saw her parents exchange a look.

Like he said there was nothing in the book about this so I guess we will just find out what happens ourselves. I finish eating and decide to go and check on Seraphina, I walk into the bedroom to surprisingly find she is already awake. She is huddled up as far as she can against the headboard with her wrists tied and connected to that headboard, she is sobbing quietly. She has blood running from both sides of her neck and also one of her breasts, from the claim marks we didn't seal and Leo's last bite into the vamps mark.

All around them, boys and girls, dressed as monsters and super-heroes, began to titter and giggle, the tension from the story leaving their little bodies. Chloe wasn't afraid of the story; in fact, she had read it before, as well as many others. She didn't have many books at home, but one that she did have was a cheap paperback collection of scary stories that she read over and over again, becoming immune to their quaint shocks. “Alright, kids. I hope that wasn't too scary for you,” the teacher said. The class, as a single unit, assured her that it was not, in fact, too scary. However, several of the children's faces said otherwise.

Room 8 was at the very end. I took a deep breath, the air burning my lungs. The door handle was cold under my trembling hand. I pushed it open. The room was shrouded in shadow, save for a single candle flickering on a small table. A tall, broad-shouldered man sat in a chair with his back to me. A wave of dread, as thick as the air itself, washed over me. "You came," he said, his voice a low, familiar growl. The hairs on the back of my neck stood on end. I froze in the doorway, my body a statue of sheer terror. The voice was a ghost from a past I didn't remember.

The burly man with the scar circled Barbara like a predator, his eyes gleaming with malice. "Let's give them what they want," he sneered, grabbing her by the hair and yanking her head back. She gasped, her body tensing as pain shot through her scalp. Another man stepped forward, a wicked grin spreading across his face. He held up a knife, the blade gleaming under the harsh alley light. "Maybe we should give them a taste of blood," he said, running the tip of the blade down Barbara's cheek. She flinched, a whimper escaping her lips.

And the quietness of his voice was the scariest thing I had ever heard, scarier than gunshots whirling above my head. “You ok love?” The accent was pure London. “Keeley, is it?” I could barely nod with my face pressed against his chest. And I hated it. I hated the cloying stench of the leather against my face. He was a Savage Sons. Sent no doubt by my cousin over in America. He was a friend. But hadn’t I thought that before? Panic ripped through me. A sob tearing it way from my throat. I couldn’t breathe. It was more than having the wind knocked out of me. It was like I had forgotten how.
