Both were really awkward at each other at first but when they found out that both were reading the same book, they eventually got a comfortable to talk at each other. “So, you also read that book-” “Yeah, I got into it after a friend of mine recommended it to me.” “Isn’t it a great book.” “Yeah, I got hooked on it after reading the first chapter.” “bla-bla-bla” Both continued to talked to each other and enjoyed their conversation. “I was feeling an awkward atmosphere growing between our table so I was gonna try to start a conversation but when you brought out your book, I was just surprised to see a person reading it.” The girl said.

Laura raised an eyebrow, clearly enjoying my panic. “Understood,” I forced out. “Good. You’re his efficient secretary. You can handle it.” The sarcasm laced her tone like poison, but I didn’t flinch. The moment she left and the door clicked shut, I exhaled shakily. Okay. Panic later. Work now. I pulled out my laptop and thanked God I had been part of the internal discussions weeks ago. I already had notes, outlines, even a rough draft of slides. “Use what you have. Fix what you can,” I muttered to myself, fingers flying across the keyboard.

"Don, the knife work was lethal. If you'd truly meant to kill me, I wouldn't be here breathing." A flicker of madness in Wade's eyes froze for a split second before he erupted into a wild laugh. His laughter twisted the scars on his face into something even more sinister. Out of nowhere, he lunged and clamped down on my wrist. I keep my eyes on the shelves, forcing myself to focus on the rows of titles instead of the way my pulse won’t stop racing. I scan the books until one catches my eye. The title almost makes me laugh, ‘Screwed Up? Here’s Your Reset Button.’ How fitting. I bite the inside of my cheek to keep from snickering and grab the book fast. “I think I see another one,” he utters, his voice dipping a little lower now. “Up top.”

I couldn't help but giggle at his expense, but at the same time, I didn't want to be blamed for anyone's death. "Okay, I'm sorry. Please don't cancel my admission," I said, feeling defeated. He let out a sigh of relief. "Only on one condition," he said with a smirk. I rolled my eyes. "And what is that?" "You see that bookshelf over there?" he pointed to the corner of his office. I turned to look at the bookshelf, and sure enough, the books were scattered. "What do you want me to do there?" I asked. "Well, you're going to arrange it, and it must be according to their titles," he said, clearly enjoying himself.

Like we’ve done for years. "So what's with you and Aidan?" Jared asks between mouthfuls of chocolate mint ice cream. "What do you mean?" I reply after taking a long licked from my vanilla soft serve. "Well yesterday he came to ask me about your book. And it was weird because it was the 3rd one in the series. He didn't even know it was yours or your name. He just wanted a background check on it so I told him it was yours. He then Alpha commanded me to tell him everything about you. He said it was a clue. What's going on there?"

Apparently they all know each other already as they chat idly while Everett and I try to wrap our minds around this plot twist. "Well, what do you think?" I ask him and he shrugs, leafing through the book. "I don't know. Maybe they're right. It couldn't hurt to read the book, right?" He asks. I run an exasperated hand down my face, shaking my head as I look down at the book. "Yeah. It couldn't hurt... and maybe they could give you some tips you can use on Harper." I say with a shit eating grin that has Everett blushing again.

He was too shocked to speak. Greta screamed, "You're insane! Do you even know what kind of people use public restrooms? Those pads could carry every disease imaginable! And why would you even need them? You've already gone through menopause!" Hilda explained, "I wanted to give them to Minerva, but she wouldn't use them. I felt it was a waste to throw them away, so I thought I could use them at night when I didn't want to get up to use the bathroom…"
