Scott says from the driver’s seat. “We have chips, cookies, crackers, juice, and...” “Gummy worms!” Aiden announces proudly. Sienna shoots Scott a look and he points at the bag. “Those were not my idea.” He says and Sienna smiles, shaking her head. “Alright, so who gets what?” I ask, smiling. Aiden immediately holds up the snacks, trying to lean over the seat. “Mommy gets the blue chips because she likes them the most. Uncle Scott gets the spicy ones because he likes to cry. Bianca gets the cookies because she looks like she likes cookies. And I get the gummy worms because I earned them.”

I said, fighting my smile. “Hi.” His voice was soft. Not what I’d expected. He checked in on his phone, then looked back at me. “Can I put two Gatorades and a protein shake on my account?” “Sure.” I grabbed the shake and gestured toward the cooler. “Pick whatever flavor you want.” He smiled at me. “Any suggestions?” Had this guy seriously never had Gatorade? “Well,” I said, leaning casually on the counter, “in my professional opinion… yellow tastes like piss, red tastes like a kid’s birthday party, green tastes like grass, purple tastes like kids’ Tylenol…”
