I'm surrounded by a purple mist, feeling weightless and adrift. Below me, I see my lifeless body, and a pang of sorrow courses through me as Micah clutches it. Horror grips me as he takes the blade and thrusts it into his chest. "No!" I scream, but my voice dissipates in the clouds. I long to embrace him, to save him, but it's too late. I can only watch as he gives his life for me.

His intruders are thrown into the most disastrous type of deaths and I can hear the sound of pain. Tears roll out from my eyes and I run away from the tower unable to look at the gruesome thing. As I’m running, I can hear footstep behind me and before I can add things up. Cult hugs me from behind and I pause. I needed that hug, I needed that comfort like I need air. We stand in the same spot, sharing the hug that comforts me deeply into my soul. “You fought for yourself and for your loved ones.” Do not be dismayed, Fiona. I am here for you. Cult say to her and I nod my head in silence.

Bodies with different claw marks and bites littered the ground, rogues lying in pools of their own blood. “What happened here?” Maddox muttered. Gareth crouched low beside one of the dead bodies, examining the wounds. “This looks like a battle but it wasn’t just a battle,” he said grimly. “It was a slaughter.” But I could barely hear him. Dexter had picked up something—something familiar. I crouched, inhaling deeply. The scent was faint, but it was very familiar and unmistakable. Fiona. I sniffed again, following the trail to a patch of bloodied earth. My heart pounded as I crouched lower. Her scent was mixed up with the metallic tang of blood. She must have been here, and she’d been hurt.

She turned, and let the warriors lead her away. “GET YOUR HANDS OFF ME YOU DISGUSTING ROACHES! DON’T YOU DARE TOUCH ME! I AM YOUR FUTURE LUNA! I ORDER YOU TO TAKE YOUR HANDS OFF ME! I HAVE A RIGHT TO DISCIPLINE ANY ONE I WANT, IN A MANNER I SEE FIT!” Fiona screamed as the warriors went to grab her.

“You’re something cursed.” “Maybe,” I growled, my voice unrecognizable, deeper, laced with power. “But I’m yours to fear.” I struck, faster than his eyes could follow. My fist slammed into his chest, flinging him across the courtyard. Stone cracked where his body landed, soldiers scattering to avoid his collapse. But victory meant nothing. Fiona was gone beneath the earth. My heart howled for her.

The cut above Kaida's eyebrow sealed shut, followed by the gash on her jaw, leaving dried blood as the only indicator they'd been there at all. "Son of a bitch," Riley breathed. "That's it," Mara encouraged. "Build up to it. Sense the worst of it and pull. You can do it, Fiona." Shaking viciously, Fiona panted. Hard. Sweat broke out on her brow and she lifted her head. Tears pooled in her eyes. Strain tightened her lips. She quickly moved her hand to Kaida's ribs. Again, a silver-blue glow emitted from her fingers, swirled, and...

Creak. The door of the camper van opened and the three girls dressed in black all entered sighing with relief. “Darn! This was simply so ….. ahhh, I hope that we won’t come across such scum in the future!” Lizzy disgustedly spoke, recalling the situation she saw in that basement. Elowyn chuckled as she walked towards the bathroom and answered, “such scum will never disappear. What we can do is continue to strive to eliminate them. If possible, find the real masterminds and rid of them.”

Inside, it was plain but safe, smelling of dry herbs and dirt. Elara helped Kael to a cot, he shivered. Ronan turned to Liora. “The Scourge you fought was just a sign of a hurt world. But you didn’t heal it, you changed it, and now it’s fighting back.” It’s reacting.” “How?” Ash asked, fingers never leaving his knife. “The Scourge was blind hunger,” Ronan said, making a bitter tea over a small fire. “Like a storm, but storms change and you gave it something new, a power that fights it back. Now it’s getting smarter, it's learning.”

Your little games won't work on me. His words didn't stir even the faintest emotion in me. My feelings for him had been worn down to nothing after countless moments of heartache. Fiona's POV As I reached the door, I felt the same electrical charge surge through my body as his hand gripped my arm. I tried to pull away, but I was no match for his strength. He pulled me back towards him as he reached out his other hand to turn my face so I could look at him; but I didn't dare allow him to do so. "Fio... .... Fiona look at me." Reluctantly, I turned back to him. The second my eyes met his own, his eyes seemed to mirror the same pain I was feeling inside. I shook my head, a sob escaping my throat.
