I asked a scout stationed near the entrance. The man looked at me like I was a ghost walking through a graveyard. He clearly knew about the Tier-One audit and the accusations I'd leveled against the pack's most lethal shark. His eyes darted between me and the hallway, filled with a mix of dread and morbid curiosity. "What's your business with the Chief Enforcer, Reed?" "I'm here to have a frank discussion about the integrity of this pack. Private. About the internal audit." I kept my back straight. I wasn't going to look like a submissive stray, even if my heart was hammering against my ribs. The scout didn't move for a moment, then he tapped his comms.

"Oh, see. I knew you'd get it! It really is an honor to be out here." Pulte turned to the other side and completely ignored him afterwards. "Everyone shut up. We're here." The captain quickly had everyone ready and geared up. They arrive at the area they are meant to scout on. "We'll split into three groups of five and scout the area. Check your gears and get ready in three minutes." The scout unit got off their carrier and started their mission. It was Pulte's second mission outside the fortress city after coming back to the force. "Don't let your guard down newbies, we're in a C level area. This place is new to us so we don't know yet what type of monsters and how strong they are."

The scout led the way, nervously glancing over his shoulder as if expecting death itself to spring from the shadows. “Here,” he whispered, halting at a narrow gap between two ancient oaks. He pointed to the ground. “Tripwire. Mechanical, but deadly. You step wrong…” He trailed off, shivering. I crouched, examining the wires strung between the trees. They were nearly invisible, fine copper threads coated in dark resin. I smirked. Amateurs. Or clever enough to be dangerous. I knelt, carefully cutting one wire at a time, my fingers steady despite the tension clawing at my chest.

"Nyxian blood huh?" Idiot. Sage cursed and I agreed with her. Aunt Mona didn't reply. The scout checked his clipboard and passed it to Aunt Mona to sign before taking it back. He beckoned on another scout, "Ayo Tee, escort them to the council." The guy named Tee came over and joined us in the car. The gates were opened for us and we drove in. "Your uncle Gray is waiting at the council for us," Aunt Mona informed me making me nod before staring out the window. The scout gave directions and as we passed by some pack territories, it was bad enough that I didn't feel any sense of familiarity about any of them.

I was stunned by her response but I nodded in agreement. “I will arrange for some scouts,” she said to me and I nodded again “Coordinate with Dominic,” and she nodded and she and Dominic headed off to arrange the scout mission. ******* (Ten hours later) I was sitting in my office with Jensen, Zack, Meagan, Dominic and Matthew, and Penelope Chaney. We were expecting the scouts back at any moment. They opted for travel in wolf form for discrete measures. So we had to wait until they were on pack territory until they could mind link. There was a metallic click sound on rocks. The eyes of Tyra opened. “They discovered us.” I could see movement of trees through the broken windows.
