From Alassandra's POV Once again, I felt as though I was falling into an empty void, a void unlike any other I'd ever experienced before. Even though I could see everything around me, there was no sound to be heard. The feeling left me feeling like I was alone in the world, with no one to talk to or share my thoughts with. It was a feeling of complete isolation and emptiness I had never experienced before. The only comfort I felt was that of the sweet taste of blood left in my mouth; it soothed the darkness and kept it calm, yet I still felt something else lurking just beyond the empty void that surrounded me.

I see myself standing before a thousand mirrors and they stretch out endlessly into a void, forming a massive, terrifying labyrinth and every single glass pane reflects a different image of me and some show my original face, line for line, while others reflect her face, Valerie’s delicate features, looking back at me with wide, haunted eyes and all of them are shifting and confusing, blurring the lines of who I am and who I am supposed to be. The cicadas sing to the full moon as I stir, unable to completely fall asleep. I’d forgotten how beautifully annoying these things were. Even with jet lag falling asleep is difficult. Hmm... that’s not a cicada. Stirring again, I reached my phone as the screen lit up, my ringtone blaring into the silent room. It’s after Three AM right now... “... who the hell is calling at this...” Oh. My annoyance crumbles and a smile plasters across my face at the caller ID.

Because Rhett moved. Not ran. Not shifted. Not jumped. He blinked out of existence— and reappeared at the exact center of the sealed void. The fabric of the universe wrinkled around him. His voice came out layered, distorted. Old. Celestial. Nothing like a wolf or a man. “OPEN.” The void did not open. It screamed. Rhett snarled, baring fangs that weren’t entirely physical—white light shaped like teeth. “I SAID—OPEN!” He struck the void with his bare hands.

And before I could balance myself, the ground simply vanished under my feet! My stomach lurched as the forest disappeared, replaced by an endless, suffocating darkness. Stacy and Carla’s screams tore through the void as all of us plunged into a black nothingness, swallowing every bit of light around us. This free fall felt endless, wind roaring past my ears, darkness swallowing every breath, until suddenly a loud thud cracked through the void below me. I recognized the startled cries of my fellows and tightened my grip around Liora, bracing for the same impact.

I look like I’m wearing a fucking nightie, and now I’m about to walk into a bar filled with a bunch of bikers. At least the place should be dark. Maybe I can just sneak in and quietly ask the bartender for help without anyone noticing me. I take a deep breath and square my shoulders. Mustn’t let them smell fear after all. When I open the door and the loud music comes crashing to an eerily quiet halt, I see a crowd of very large men staring at me. It’s dogs, you dumbass!, I silently scream at myself. Never let dogs smell fear!

I was getting angry, between the desperate need to drink more blood and knowing what I was becoming, I loose it and scream. It was ear splitting, a high pitched sound that begins to crack the glass of the window and I watch as the vampires clamp theirs hands over their ears, blood trickling between their fingers and leaking out the corners of their mouths as they cough, some drop to the floor as I continue to scream, piercing their eardrums. Her chest twisted violently. Kai screamed in her face. “LENA!” She snapped back and jumped. Kai dropped after her just as the train roared above them. The noise was unbearable. The tunnel shook. Dust rained over them. The tiny underground space felt like it would collapse. Tess screamed nonstop.
