Chapter two Keisha’s pov Going to my window and jumping down carefully I go behind a tree, take off my clothes focusing my mind on shifting. I have to take off my clothes cause only the Alpha’s Lina’s and Beta’s can shift with their clothes on without tearing them and shift back with their clothes on. As I focus my mind on shifting I hear the familiar feeling of my bones cracking and reforming and I’m on all fours as I let Due take control as she dashes through the woods feeling the cool breeze on her fur and the earthly smell of the woods.

As I loosened the sash of my silk robe, the glands at the back of my neck began to uncontrollably secrete cedar pheromones. My bones made popping sounds first, my knuckles twisting into wolf claws suited for sprinting. My spine stretched and restructured like a steel bar being hammered by an invisible blacksmith, the intense pain forcing me to bite down on the prepared jet chain. The walls suddenly displayed a grotesque shadow as the scapula bone pierced the skin, revealing bone spurs that slowly retracted in rhythm with the tearing and reorganization of muscle fibers. When my fully shifted forepaws shattered the tiles, the oilcloth bundle was flipped by the rush of air.

I smiled, though a tiny, cold wire of anxiety remained coiled tightly around my heart. "Now finish your coffee. You have a nine o'clock lecture, and I have fifty-two medical transport routes to log before the afternoon shift changes."

I muttered. I stretched out, loosening my muscles; the familiar sensation of the shift was beginning to tingle across my skin. Shifting was a process that never got old, no matter how many times I did it. Every nerve in my body came alive, the sharp prickle of energy building under my skin until it was impossible to hold back. I took a deep breath, feeling the familiar pull of the moon as it crept higher in the sky. I closed my eyes and let the change flow over me.

His spine shifted under his skin. “WHAT THE—?!” a guard shouted. Liam fell to his hands and knees, crying out in pain as his legs twisted and stretched. His skin tore and dark fur pushed through. Serena gasped, covering her mouth. “He’s shifting—he’s actually shifting—” “But he’s too young!” Robert shouted. “No child shifts at six!”

This was only my second full shift and I expected it to be excruciatingly painful like it was in the woods, but it wasn't. Oh for sure it hurt like a bitch every time one of my bones snapped and broke, but by the time the bone had reshaped itself and set again in its new place, the pain was gone. This shift took less than 60 seconds. I'd watched many of Tristan's pack shift, and Landon was the fastest shifter they had, but even he took longer than 2 minutes to fully shift. I guess the hunter side of me sped up the process, whatever the reason I damn well loved it. The thought of being able to shift in mere seconds was such an ego boost, I could just imagine the shocked look on Tristan's face

It was listening. And there, in the midst of the ruined circle, and with the ash of the broken symbols whirling about his feet, stood Fenric with his hands not trembling with fatigue, but with the shock of what he had just wrought. Because it totally was. Roman helped us once again to shift. It wasn’t as difficult this time because our body already knew what to expect. It was also much faster. It took five minutes, which wasn’t fast for most people, but it was a good time considering that this was only the second time that I’ve shifted. I stood tall and proud as Roman admired me once again just like he had done the first time. He spent a couple of minutes showing me love, which I soaked right up. His bones began cracking as Creed pulled a shift, which was nearly instantaneous. Wow! That was fast.

I asked "I have been shifting for years, and it's only the first shift that takes some time" he replied making me nod my head in understanding "You didn't look like you were in pain" I said and he chuckled a little "It is because you don't feel pain when you shift after the first few times" he replied with a smile "Don't worry, you will feel a little soreness when you shift the next time, you won't feel so much pain" he assured and I sighed in relief
