Then she quoted a scripture verse that took Joel back to his young days, sitting by his mother’s knee with his brother, his father on the big chair reserved for him. She had read that scripture verse to them almost every night and had read it to Joel, too, the night before he left for England. And as Mary read those words over and over again, Joel held to the promise and hoped that at the end of the day, they would find the answer that they needed. Everything would be fine.
