It did not matter whether there was a misunderstanding between us anymore. The next second, Greyson returned, having left something behind. Seeing me, his expression was complicated. "Nicola Tromp, long time no see." Greyson seemed unchanged, except that the edge in his eyes had reduced. "How have you been?" After a long silence, I heard my own dry voice respond, "Without you, of course, I'm fine." He seemed somewhat taken aback, a hint of sorrow in his eyes.

Was he in some way a fae? “You okay?” Dreyma tapped the top of my head with her staff. “Ashai?” I shook my head, trying to refocus to give my opponent my full attention. Snow was thick right now. It had been the worst snowstorm in ten years and we were still expected to train. Apparently, across the barrier, the fae have erratic seasons fueled by magic. Our seasons were usually hardly noticeable when they changed, maybe just a slight dip in the temperatures during winter and a slight rise during summer but we never expected the snowstorm that blanketed us in three feet of the cold, icy powder.
