Anna remained perched on the stone altar, the white shroud clinging to her skin, but her gaze was fixed on the space between the boiling iron pot and the old woman. Standing there was a shadow that didn't belong to the dead or the living. It was a young woman, translucent and radiant, her hair the color of midnight and her eyes the same electric blue that had defined Anna’s life. She looked so much like Elara, but the age was wrong,she was a snapshot of a girl who had never been allowed to grow old. The shadow girl pointed a delicate finger at the Crone, then at herself, and finally at Anna.

"Because we stopped apologizing for the shadows, Cassie. We just turned on the lights." As the jazz quartet swelled in the distance and the community continued to celebrate their archivist, I looked at the photograph of the bound hands resting directly across from us. The iron grip of the Dominant, the absolute trust of the submissive. It was the architecture of our entire world, captured perfectly in silver gelatin. And standing there, anchored by the magnificent, unyielding gravity of Victor St. Clair, I knew our exhibition had only just begun.

One morning, as I sat in our chambers trying to eat some bread to settle my stomach, the worst vision hit me like heavy waves. I saw the triplets—not as babies, but older, their faces was clear. Two of them shone brightly, full of that divine energy we'd all felt since the ritual. But the third... gods, the third had eyes like black holes, it had shadows leaking from their skin. It wasn't just one of them turning dark, it was something else, a fourth thing pretending to be one of my babies. A shadow twin, born from the void's rot, feeding on my power like a leech. Disguised so well I couldn't tell which heartbeat was real and which was the parasite.

But his voice wavers—just a little—and that’s what makes me take one step closer. Before I can respond, I feel the strength of the shadows encasing me. A sharp pain courses through my body, and for a moment, the darkness swallows me whole. But then, Shadow’s hands wrap around me—steady, relentless. His energy flows into mine, merging with it, and for an instant, all I feel is him. His love, his rage, his pain… everything. It’s as if our souls are intertwined so deeply we cannot live without each other. “I told you I didn’t care what happened,” Shadow replies, his eyes blazing with overwhelming intensity. “You won’t tear us apart. Suddenly, my hands started shaking and the plates I was holding fell on the floor and shattered into pieces. I forcefully opened the door so I could help myself upstairs but suddenly fell on something. I lay down screaming in pain but no one was coming to my rescue. I turned around to try getting hold of something I could stand with when my hand suddenly hit a glass and everything shattered into pieces on me and pierced through my skin. A few seconds later, I felt the omegas gathering around but no one dared to offer me a helping hand as they would be severely punished. I was still struggling to get up when I heard a familiar voice screaming my name.

It looked at Damion. Then back at me. "I've been waiting so long." My mouth went dry. "Who are you?" The figure's smile disappeared. "You." The world seemed to tilt. "No." "Yes." It touched its chest. "I am the part of you that was left behind." Damion's grip tightened around my hand. The stranger stepped backward. "The Shadow Anchor." The figure laughed softly. "And now..." Its silver eyes turned completely black. "...I want my life back." The bond between Damion and me snapped taut.

Sophie’s POV The sight of the alter ego of Lucas moving toward our son made my blood freeze over. Time seemed to slow as I made my move as well, golden Luna energy exploding from me aiming in a protect. The shadow twin collided with my shield, its black eyes, mirror images of Lucas’s silver ones, flashing with hunger that was as old as anything. Lucas screamed in my arms, his tiny body convulsing as the dark veins spread further, fighting against the pull of his corrupted counterpart.

"The ritual is old and dangerous. It must be done at full moon, in the ocean. You shall have two wolves walk you down and stand by your side while it happens. You offer your shadow willingly. The gods will take it, but they will curse it too. After that, you and Paris can be together. No more hiding." Tears stung my eyes. The choice felt impossible. Freedom and love on one side. Eternal guilt on the other.
