Solomon POV The journey to my brother’s realm was short, but the apprehension I felt was a never-ending feeling. I was worried. Things in the realm were changing. I was worried about First Dragon and his children. Soon, he would find out our biggest secret, one we hid from him to save him. I did not know how he would react and what that would entail. My thoughts went to my great granddaughter, Dragana, the Tribrid, who somehow found herself in the center of all this mess, through no fault of her own. The shadow beast howled, its form flickering and distorting. The man staggered back, his silver eyes wide with rage. “You have no idea what you’re doing!” Sasha gritted her teeth, tears streaming down her face. “Then maybe you should’ve thought of that before you dragged me into this!” The altar cracked beneath her hands, the runes shattering like glass. The light intensified, and with a final, deafening roar, the shadow beast exploded into nothingness. Sasha collapsed, her vision swimming. Kael was at her side in an instant, his human form trembling as he gathered her into his arms.

They’re afraid, she realized, gasping. Tears stung her eyes. “I’m here. I’m here, my stars. I won’t let them reach us.” From above, a dragon roared again—Drakonios in full wrath. She looked up just in time to see him dive, fire gushing from his maw, burning a clear path through the center of the swarm. Shadowcreatures screamed and disintegrated mid-leap. Drakonios landed with a quake that split the earth, his claws dragging flaming arcs through the enemy’s ranks.

Too slow. My claws slam into the first dragon before he even finishes turning. Bone cracks. Scales split. The creature tumbles from the sky in a spiral of blood and fire. Another dragon lunges at my flank. I twist midair and rake my claws across his wing. He drops instantly. Around me Emberhold’s dragons crash into Malrec’s forces like a falling storm. The sky becomes a battlefield of wings, fire, and tearing steel. But I barely notice. Because Seraphina is still there.

“Kill his dragon. His dragon is one powerful enough and has the potential to destroy the whole of Chicago, potentially the world to find you.
