The darkness loomed around them like a cloak. Sekhmet carried an old-fashioned torch he pulled from a hole in the wall to light the way. It was a bit theatric and unnecessary, considering vampires and werewolves alike could see in the dark. But it set the mood for torture nicely; causing shadows to dance across the walls. A bleeding.

My smile dropped at the woman who stood frozen with her eyes wide in shock, she was staring at nothing in particular with a mixture of sadness, fear, confusion but most prominently anger in her grey eyes. Her expression caused everyone’s smiles to drop; I took a step closer to her and placed my hands on her shoulders. I looked into her wide eyes and felt Shadow stir restlessly. ‘What is the Shadow? Shadow’s agitation was affecting me. ‘Mate!’ I was taken aback by her reaction; ‘Shadow, this is Tatiana not D-’ I cut myself off and swung around to look at Devin. I looked into his confused eyes and was met with grey eyes strikingly identical to those I stared into just seconds ago.

There’s no need for beating around the bush. "Uh... yeah, I do like you," he blinked, visibly nervous. "Thank you for your kind feelings for me, but I'm not the right person for you," I returned the wolf-shaped wooden carving to him. "Do I stand no chance at all?" His eyes showed a hint of pain as he looked at the carving in his hand. "No," I replied firmly. I could have used more comforting and tactful words, but I didn't want to leave him with any false hope.

Rebel and Ryder yelled and pounced on Shadow shifting into their wolf form and started nipping at him. “Hey, hey!” Shadow yelped as Ryder nipped his thigh just missing his most sensitive areas. “Those aren’t balls you play with.” He shrieked covering his crotch. Jen tried not to laugh but she couldn’t hold back. “Thanks for the help love.” He grumbled. “My pleasure. Imma here to help anytime.” She snickered. “Ryder, Rebel get off of Shadow.” Storm laughed. “Off now.” She snapped her fingers at them. They playfully growled at Shadow and ran to their mom’s feet. “Okay you three shift back, fingers and feet please.” She ordered.

The sun cast long shadows, gilding the scene in golden light, while whispers rippled through the crowd like a rising tide. Ella stood at the center, unwavering. Her once fragile form had transformed—muscles defined beneath the dark leather armor that hugged her like a second skin, silver accents catching the light with every breath. The Shadow Fang emblem emblazoned on her chest was no longer just a symbol—it was a promise, a mark of her journey, her strength. Beside her, Damian’s presence radiated power and pride. His eyes softened as they settled on her, protective and full of unwavering support. When he stepped forward, his voice rolled across the field with quiet authority.

Alessia never missed an opportunity to jab me with her tongue, and Zayn sat there enjoying the show like it was a comedy act. After she stormed off again, Zayn leaned back in his chair, smirking. “She’s got fire. I like her.” “She’s reckless,” I muttered. “She’s alive,” Zayn countered. “Most women in our world are trained shadows. She’s a storm.”

A high-pitched whistle sliced through the humid air. Dozens of blow-darts, tipped not with tree-frog poison, but with condensed, liquid dark matter, rained down on us from the canopy. Killian didn't even flinch. His human silhouette flickered, instantly replaced by the thirteen-foot, obsidian mass of the Shadow Lycan. He didn't dodge the darts. He caught the air itself. A massive wave of gravitational shadow erupted from Killian's form, suspending the deadly darts mid-air, inches from my face. With a low, vibrating growl, he reversed the polarity. The darts shot back into the canopy a hundred times faster than they had been blown.
