Ember's POV When I woke, the world was wet stone and cold iron. My arms were stretched above my head, chains biting into my wrists until my skin burned. The air shimmered faint blue, alive with whispers that hummed against my bones. Every breath I took tasted like metal and ash. My disguise was gone....no bandages, no cloak, no voice to hide behind. Just me. Ember. And the truth I’d spent months burying.

Like a heartbeat that wasn’t mine. “She sees through the veil,” Ember continued. “She’s speaking to the other side.” I blinked. “What does that mean?” Link stepped behind me, wrapping an arm around my waist protectively. Logan stood near the edge of the circle, watching the trees. Always watching. “It means she’s reaching beyond what even Logan touched,” Ember whispered. “Fire can burn. But shadow? Fenix said as Samantha nodded. “I agree on that,” she agreed as Fenix chuckled. They talked for a few moments, walking down the streets as Samantha stared at the darkening skies. Time to get going, I guess, she mused as she excused herself from Fenix before taking her leave. Samantha whistled, walking along the small trail that led to the darkened, foggy forest where the Shadow Pack lived. She was happy, humming a lullaby before her acute hearing picked up some noises behind her. Samantha stilled in her walk. Her hair rose at her nape as she felt the disturbance of energy in the small trail.
