### Shadows and Ash Elsewhere, deep beneath the churning western ocean, within a massive, subterranean cavern that predated the kingdoms, Lady Nyx stood atop a precipice of black stone. Faint, silvery moonlight filtered through the deep fissures in the rocky ceiling far above, illuminating the dark space. Nearby, the massive, obsidian form of the Shadow Dragon rested on a bed of volcanic ash. It was sleeping, its chest rising and falling in slow, heavy thuds, its massive tail curled protectively around a central mound. Deep within the coil of its tail rested an enormous egg. It was pure black, its surface veined with a rhythmic, pulsating silver light that mirrored a heartbeat.
