One of the last to mock when she’d left, his gaze unreadable. Now, his eyes shone the same pale, dead silver as the puppet-sentry’s. He staggered to his paws, movements slow and stiff. Shadow clung to his fur like oil, dripping from his shoulders in tendrils that tried to rise back toward the wall. Luna’s fingers dug into the frozen earth.

After Ana scrambled her way out of his office, Cole remained still for a long time before finally going back to the files. He flipped to the last page this time he saw a timestamp and an internal message log. He saw that the message was not from Leah; it was from Ana, and the date did not match anything she had told him. One, just except my fate because I was tired as hell and had no will power in me to fight or fight despite my body not being fully awake because I had a daughter to life for and didn’t want everyone to come home to a lifeless body laying on the kitchen floor bleeding to death. I’m the Shadow of death for god sakes so I wasn’t about to accept death so easily. So here I was crouched over the lifeless body of the mystery ninja who turned out to be a woman. Pulling the dagger out from her head, blood came pouring out staining the marble floor.

“Overlord?” Shadow lifted her brow one to answer the question. “I’m back.” He laughed in relief before slumping to the couch. “I can vividly see myself fighting them, Overlord.” Shadow’s lazy eyes returned. “Is that so?” He nodded happily. He looked like a middle school kid that found a wrapped candy on the floor. “Are you that happy?” He did the same thing once again. “It’s not a fleeting dream if we join hands. I can make you stronger than Chayan, shall you allow me.”

The shadow lunged at me, massive and formless, but I stood my ground. I summoned everything within me, my power crackling in my veins like an untamed storm. “You can’t take what’s mine,” I shouted, pushing back with a surge of energy. The shadow recoiled but didn’t retreat. Its voice came again, deep and resonant. “You misunderstand. You were never its master.” Before I could respond, something slammed into me from the side, knocking me off balance. I hit the ground hard, rolling to avoid the sharp claws of one of the shadow creatures. Gideon rushed to my side, driving a blade into the beast’s neck.

The shards glow brighter, their light merging into a single beam. A rift opens, its edges pulsing with violet light. “Go,” Kieran says, his voice tight. “We’ll hold it open as long as we can.” I nod, shifting mid-stride as I leap into the rift. --- **The Shadow’s Realm** The air is thick with the scent of decay, the ground uneven and slick beneath my paws. The Shadow’s laughter echoes around me, cold and cruel. *“You cannot stop me, Alpha. Your children are mine.”*

She started putting on her own clothes. "I promise to see you soon." I squeezed her hand in mine. She came closer to me and kissed my lips softly. Her touch against my body made me want to undress her and go another round but I couldn't, not with the watchful eyes of shadow on us. She turned around and left. "So shall we?" Shadow asked. "Do you mind enlightening me on how you two met?" I asked as we started down the road. "Just like you and me." He smiled. "I am a shadow alpha, a shadow that goes wherever it pleases."

Shadow told me his name was Cain, and I should never make eye contact with him unless I had a death wish and a signed will. Then there were the groups the ones that ran in packs like wolves, They laughed too loud and Hit too hard but also Moved in unison. Shadow leaned next to me at some point and pointed them out one by one. “Those are the Hounds,” he muttered. “They backstab for fun.”... I just nodded then my gaze moved to ... I don't know the dude looks short. “And that little dude?” “Don’t be fooled,” Shadow said. “He once ripped a guy’s ear off with his teeth. He’s sixteen.”

When Hunter grabbed their suitcases Shadow appeared out of nowhere and told us something about the alpha wanting us to cover the gate which we both knew was a lie, because he was supposed to be the one at the gate, but I didn’t question him and didn’t waste no time getting away for the woman who couldn’t possibly be my mate. A tear trailed down my cheek. But this time, it wasn’t grief. It was hope. Hope that maybe, just maybe, this wasn’t the end of our story. It was the beginning of our comeback. And no one—not Viktor, not his shadows, not even death itself—would take her from us again.
