He was standing by the reception desk, his back to me, but there was no mistaking that posture, that dark, unruly hair, the way his shoulders slumped slightly as if carrying an invisible weight.
I stopped, my breath hitched, a sudden, cold knot tightening in my chest. For six months, his image had been a painful memory I had tried to bury under my new beginnings.
Now, he was here, real, in my presence.
