While Bo has a shining white head free of even a single strand of hair and a short thin (mostly gray) facial hair and smells like golden spice. Gray is standing on the left side of a semicircle made up of him, Cordelia and Bo, with cordelia being in the middle, a few yards just ahead of us. Gray’s holding a long thick metal link chain in his hands, conversing with the two. Iselyn and I stop a few feet away, just close enough to alert them to our presence and hear the conversation.

He landed in the shadows ten meters to her right, definitely dead. The shadows were so dark, Alex could barely see through her makeshift hood, but she could hear them coming. Five of the shadow people ran straight for her and they had guns. Another one, the sniper, breathed heavily from his perch 50 meters away. Alex knew if she made any movement, it would be her last. These men were sophisticated enough to have guns and stay out of the sunlight. At least she didn't have a gunshot wound this time, but she would have to be careful, they were smarter than the Vestarians.

The two swords clashed in the air, the sound of metal on metal echoed around the camp. Hudde attacked the Seeker from the left. A hand of smoke and darkness, just like the one that killed Gunther, appeared in front of Hudde, and before he could dodge it, the hand wrapped around his neck, squeezing him hard. Hudde dropped his sword as he fought to free himself from the dark spell. “Hudde!” Rhobart yelled loudly as he jumped to help him. Atlas joined Eude, and both of them attacked the Seeker relentlessly. Rhobart kept trying to find a way to help Hudde, but there was no way to remove the hand of smoke and darkness.

Massive and silent, the bird watched, his black eyes glinting like polished obsidian… The men gave pause, their eyes wide and hearts trembling with fear as they gazed upon the creature before them. Part demon – part Robin Hood! If his cloak was black, that was... “Shall we try this again?” he taunted, holding out his arms in clear invitation. The men didn’t hold back. The guns opened fire – a rain of bullets that shredded the air. For a moment, smoke filled the rooftop, thick and acrid. Then, as it cleared, they saw him.

It’s recognition. I feel it again. That presence. Watching me from the corner that shouldn’t be there. From the shadow that crawls just outside the edge of sense. You’re a return. Those words weren’t in my ears. They were in my bones. “Who are you?” I whisper. The shadows shift, and in the hush that follows, I don’t hear a voice—but I see something. A flicker of a memory. Not mine.

No one is to lay a hand on her. "Here's a little motivation." I swiftly grab the gun that has been tucked behind me, in my pants. It's loaded with silver bullets, lethal to werewolves. Before anyone could blink, I randomly shot one of Russell's team members in the head. I watch as his lifeless body falls to the ground, leaving a crimson puddle that's most certainly going to stain my new and expensive rug. I walk back to my desk to put the gun down and then turn to watch the color drain from their faces, the horror that fills their eyes, the fear that is consuming their entire being.

“You’re drooling, Little River.” He teases lightly, and I flush. “Sorry” I murmur, but before he can say anything, something moves beside him and moves towards me as if coming in for a hug. I scream and jump back, only to take a close look… What in the Dr. Facilier shit, is this? Is that his shadow casually coming my way? “I-uh-I…” “Back.” He says, and the shadow seems to deflate sadly and then retreat into his actual shadow.

Muzzle flashes illuminated the darkness in brief, blinding bursts, casting eerie shadows across the forest floor. Kai's father darted between the trees, using the dense foliage to his advantage. He was fast, faster than any human, his jaguar form a blur of motion as he weaved through the hail of bullets. But the poachers were relentless, their shots tearing through leaves and undergrowth, getting closer with each passing second.

“It’s—” “Close!” Blade shouted, shoving Cruz backward just as the shadow struck, missing Cruz by inches and tearing a jagged line along the wall. Sparks flew where metal met metal—or whatever this thing was. Cruz leveled his gun, eyes locked on the shifting darkness. “I’ll draw it—follow my lead!”

Dario. Amy didn’t wait, she moved in and that’s when it went wrong, the Ambush they had been waiting, seven men, heavily armed not Capetti, not Merchetti — the shadow family. The ones who had sold their loyalty to whichever side paid more. Amy ducked behind a marble column, reloading. One of her men was already down, the other was screaming. A bullet grazed her thigh, she stumbled. Another smashed into her shoulder. The outfit slowed it, but the force knocked her back. Blood in her mouth, smoke in her lungs. She heard her name once and then — silence, she collapsed.
