Lucas said, almost sounding indignant that I didn’t know that – as if it were my fault that the Shadow Hunters were so powerful. “We’re the strongest and most powerful coven remaining. A lot of the citizens of the Blood Shade – Lodgers we call them – escaped from covens that the hunters managed to find and completely annihilate.” Vivienne most likely sensed my agitation over the news, because she quickly changed the subject. “Shadow Hunters are a topic for a later date.” She said, curtly. We had just reached the outskirts of The Vale and were now about to enter a different part of the redwood forest.

She comes up to them, and Winter says nothing. “I am making the tea,” says Andrea, “does anyone want some?” Joshua now goes to his room, sits on his knees, holds Winter's belly, and kisses it. Whispering, “our unborn child,” she stands up and starts kissing him. Larry, “boss, we need to start recruiting new guys. We low on men,” Larry says. “These bloody shadow hunters killed some of our best guys!” “I know a group of guys who are the best,” says Lucifer, “they are trained well. However, these guys have a reputation that's left some traces, so they will, unfortunately, bring too much attention.”

My Beta and KC’s mate, Kasper, Beta Kruz and this is Kydence, our little brother’s mate and co-Alpha.” Connor introduced. “No fuckin’ way! KC and Kota found their mates? What about you?” Hunter said excitedly. “Yup, the three of us found our mates. All of them in the Shadow Mountain pack. C’mon we better get back before Kota starts to worry.” Connor said.

Demon dogs and hellhounds never backed off until either their prey or themselves were dead. The majority of the walkers had been killed only a few remained and Oliver had them locked up, unsure what to do with the half-dead, soulless humans. Because if they were once shifters, they no longer were. “What are you going to do with the walkers?” I ask Oliver, my eyes still on the nightmare horses. “Kill them?” He says with thought and with the hint of a question. “No,” Finn interjects. I finally turned to look at the three. “Finn is right, you can’t just kill them. There's at least twenty-five of them sitting in that room.”

I felt I needed to learn more about communicating with ghosts and all that, so I decided to watch some of what Trisha had called the pros. I’d noticed that YouTube ghost hunters talked a lot about one Brandon Price, leader of a team called Haunters, like he was the grandfather of paranormal investigation, even over the Warrens and Hans Holzer. A quick search taught me that even though Haunters hadn’t been among the pioneers of that particular TV niche, they already had nine seasons and counting. And they were considered the best of the best.

Just when I allowed myself to hope for a moment of peace, Xareth told me we were going to another pack. The next day by nightfall, we were traveling, the land turning darker and colder with every mile. We were headed toward Nocthra Vane, a region whispered about in fear. Home of the Shadow Walkers. They were legends, hunters who moved between shadow and air, who trained in silence and bled in darkness. Some said they were born without scent. Others swore they could steal voices. After days of travelling we arrived, but even with Xareth’s monstrous army of twisted soldiers and walkers, the battle wasn’t easy.

I hollered as I shifted to hunt down the bastards. Carson quickly caught the first two and eliminated them. The stupid assholes had thought coming back together half a mile from the clearing was going to help them. We crept through the forest silently, searching for the last rogue. We scouted the forest for hours and had just picked up its scent when a frantic call echoed through the forest. We froze misstep, trying to pick it up again if it was uttered again. Moments later a low-pitched bird call followed by a rapid, stressful one. Fuck. We looked around anxiously. ‘Falcon, hunters are here. What do we do?’
